Construction is underway on the new wastewater treatment and water reclamation facilities in Belfair. This project will convert septic systems within key areas of the Belfair Urban Growth Area to an environmentally-friendly, county-operated sewer utility. These wastewater facilities are needed to provide a sustainable approach to water management that protects Hood Canal and treats wastewater to Class A standards for water reuse. Reuse of treated wastewater provides the highest and best use of local resources and protects Hood Canal. On a long-term basis the project will support the backbone for urban infrastructure in Belfair as mandated by the Growth Management Act.
The project team is committed to informing and involving the Belfair community in this project. This web site will provide the latest updates and information about the project during construction and as you connect to the sewer system. Check back often to stay up to date on current activities and upcoming work.
Construction activities this week
-
Beginning Monday night the prime Contractor has set up for 2 crews on Hwy 3 installing the mainline sewer. One crew will begin work near Clifton Street and progress north while the other will keep working on Hwy 3 near Belfair Street. Hours of nighttime work will be approximately 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. During this work, you can expect single-lane closures along SR 3 and flaggers directing traffic. Locations of road closures will move as the contractor completes initial trenching and dewatering, installs pipes, and moves to the next segment of pipe.
-
Survey work will continue in preparation for construction at the wastewater reclamation facility site east of Belfair.
-
Crews will continue working on the boring pit at the intersection of SR 3 and SR 300 in preparation for installing pipes northward from the boring pit. Pipes will be installed using trenchless methods, using a technique called jack and bore. The pit has been used for approximately two weeks, with a total duration of use of four to six weeks.

On an ongoing basis, crews are working to seek out existing underground utilities locations to avoid service interruptions. Please note that unforeseen, temporary utility and/or water interruptions are possible during construction work in existing rights-of-way. We will work to notify you of any service issues as soon as we are aware of them.
